Avriel’s last known location was her home in Lynchburg, where she was last seen around 8 pm on August 22. Concern arose when her mother, Ashely Pittman, received a text from Avriel around 6 am the next morning. However, suspicions arose as it was doubted whether Avriel had actually sent the message herself.
Worried for her daughter’s well-being, Avriel’s mother went to her house on August 23. To her alarm, the door was unlocked, and the lights were on, but Avriel was nowhere to be found. Her family reported her missing on August 23, 2023.
In an effort to find her, multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Lynchburg Police Department, Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia Department of Emergency Management, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, collaborated on the search.
Tragically, a week after her disappearance, Avriel’s lifeless body was discovered in a wooded area off a main road, specifically the US 60 Lexington Turnpike in Amherst.
